The Ning Dynasty is on the brink. Pei Shenzhi tampers with the testamentary edict and installs Ning Jinyi as a puppet emperor. Ning Jinyi feigns compliance while secretly amassing strength and launching new policies. Pei Shenzhi, drawn to her wit, supports her covertly. Ultimately, she purges the court and rises to be a great empress.
